Christmas Tree and Carols! We are happy to announce that Oxenford Farm have kindly offered to donate a large Norway Spruce Christmas Tree for the Village Green this year. We are planning Christmas carols around the tree on Friday 6 December starting at 6.30pm, including mulled wine, mince pies and children’s snacks! If you are happy to act as a marshal to help with setting up and clearing up, please email ourelstead@gmail.com. Otherwise, we hope to see as many of you as possible around the tree on 6 December at 6.30pm! 🎄🎄🎄
One of the conditions on the new development at the former Weyburn Works site was for a SANGS – Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space. A SANGS is to encourage people to walk, with their dogs, away from some of the commons, where there are rare ground nesting birds.
The SANGS is situated between the village and the Weyburn site, and should be ready for the public to access within a couple of months – as it is a condition that the SANGS is ready before any of the houses are occupied.
As part of this work, Footpath 61 which runs from the Shackleford Road, through the new development and joins up with the Burford Lodge Recreation Ground, and Lower Ham Lane, will also be improved.
There is a volunteers’ task on Thursley National Nature Reserve on Sunday 27th October. Can we please meet for 10am at Thursley village recreation ground. Can you please confirm if you are planning on joining us so I know the numbers for the day – many thanks.
We will be cutting and burning invasive scrub or clearing and burning gorse from tracksides.
I look forward to seeing you there.

The new train at Thursday Road rec finally has a nameplate. Pupils at St James Primary School in current yr 3 were asked to come up with some names for the new train after it was installed and the wining name was ‘The Elstead Express”! Residents can now seen the new name in blue livery (to match the wheels) on the engine. A couple of modifications have also been made to make the train as robust as possible The PC is delighted that children have enjoyed playing on it since it was installed. It’s certainly been a popular addition.
