Road Closure Buford Lea

UPDATE 13.00HR PC has contacted SCC again and pushed for diversion signage and requested SCC to attend to share informed diversion routes. The PC has also advised the police as there were problems with delivery vehicles tuning. Police are also liaising with SCC. SCC have just sent the following update: We’ve had the following come through from our contacts at South East Water:“The engineers managed to locate and repair the burst main overnight, we’ve had engineers on site this morning to secure the site and start repairing the carriageway. The excavation should be ready for permanent reinstatement tomorrow morning, due to the size of the excavation, it will take all day and most of Saturday night for the tarmac to cure.We are looking to lift the closure on Sunday mid-morning, so if everything goes according to plan everything back to normal on Monday morning.”This means that we expect buses to remain on diversion for the rest of today and Saturday, but from first thing Monday morning the Stagecoach 46 service should be back to normal line of route. Although this remains an inconvenience for local residents for the next two days, at least children returning to school on the 19th will be able to catch their usual bus service.Should we receive any further updates in the meantime we will let you know.

Waverley Borough Council’s Garden Waste service resumes from Monday 1 March.

Waverley Borough Council’s Garden Waste service will resume at the beginning of March now that staffing levels are improving after COVID-19 absences impacted on staff numbers. Following the suspension of the service in January, garden waste customers will see a return to their fortnightly collection service from Monday 1 March.  All existing customers will receive a letter or an email advising them of the start date and information regarding the extension of their annual subscription. Councillor Steve Williams, Waverley Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: “It was a difficult but necessary decision to make back in January following a rise in infections and corresponding staff absence; we had to ensure all available staff resources focused on the essential household waste and recycling collections.  It has been a challenging time for all of us and the bin crews have worked extremely hard to keep these essential services going but I am pleased to say that with staff levels getting back to normal, we are now able to deliver our garden waste service again.  I would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during the suspension of the service and their efforts in reducing or reusing waste and composting, and remind subscribers that the council will, of course, extend the period of a resident’s subscription to cover any period of suspension.” Could we please remind all residents that if your refuse or recycling collections are late during the pandemic, please be patient and leave them out as the contractor will return to empty them as soon as possible.  If it is only your bin that has not been emptied but your neighbours have been dealt with, then please report in the usual way via our bin checker. Further information on Waverley’s waste collection service is available on our bins and recycling page.
