  • UPDATE ON ELSTEAD FIBRE NETWORK – GIGABIT VOUCHERS

    F&W Networks is working with government to close the funding gap which is partly subsidised by government. The funding is paid into the network by validating gigabit vouchers. F&W Networks and their retail providers, such as HeyBroadband, will be getting in contact with you to help. We ask if you can please help close the funding gap for network.     Elstead PC has undertaken some remedial work on both recreation grounds this week (22nd April).  Burford Lodge Rec has been fertilised and the goal mouths have been reseeded where there was the most wear and tear. As there is no water source down there our contractor will water periodically.   • Easter at Bonfire Hill

    A great time was had by all at the Easter Egg-stravaganza at Bonfire Hill which was held on Saturday 4th April. The Bonfire Hill Committee laid on a selection of fun games for all the family to enjoy including 'scrambled eggs’ for which children raced across the field facing West Hill collecting hundreds of ‘eggs’ that had been scattered by the team of volunteers.   All the ‘eggs' contained different letters and children attempted to make the longest word from all their letters.  A competitive egg and spoon race followed - this was particularly competitive for the adult race.  The event...

    Well over 100 people packed into Elstead Village Hall during the evening of Friday 20th March to attend a public meeting entitled ‘the future of healthcare provision in Elstead’.     Did you know, a staggering 298 tonnes of recyclable material had to be rejected for recycling last year? The recyclable material had been contaminated by unrecyclable items that prevented it from being made into something else.  This is a massive issue because rejected loads and contamination of dry mixed recycling is expensive for local councils to sort out – and that extra cost is passed on to councils and the taxpayer.     Residents are invited to attend the Annual Parish Assembly on 20th May 8pm-9pm at Elstead Youth Centre. There will be talks from The Rural Life Centre and Inspector Rob Brian, Waverley Borough Police Commander as well as updates on Bonfire Hill and the new date for the neigbourhood plan referendum.     Following a court order the scheduled referendum for the Elstead & Weyburn Neighbourhood Plan has been deferred due to an error on a map.  The plan will be amended and a new referendum date will be arranged by Waverley BC.  It is anticipated that the new referendum will take place as quickly as possible.  Once we have a date we will advise residents.  A new drop-in date will be arranged at which residents will be able to ask any questions about the plan.     Residents will be able to have their say on the Elstead and Weyburn Neighbourhood plan as the referendum has been set for 29th February 2024. A summary of the plan will be letter dropped to all residents ahead of the referendum.     English Nature is running some research into how people use heathlands and protected areas.     Elstead Parish Council understands that an offer for the purchase of the land at Bonfire Hill has been accepted by the vendor. The purchaser is someone with a long association with the village, who intends to transfer ownership of the land to a charitable trust administered by the Parish Council for the benefit of the local community. The Trust Deed will determine the future use of the land, which is likely to be confined to agriculture, recreation and amenity.   • Coronation Celebrations

    Celebrating the Coronation On Sunday May 7th, the day after the Coronation, Elstead was proud to offer it’s older residents a Coronation Tea, and the village came together to make sure that a truly excellent time was had by all. The Hall was decorated with flags and bunting, flowers and union jacks, and there was even a cut-out King Charles to greet people!     Following our annual meeting held on May 22nd, two further councillors were co-opted onto Elstead Parish Council. Both, along with our newly elected councillors were welcomed to the meeting. Elstead Parish Council now comprises; Pat Murphy (chair) Jane Jacobs (Vice Chair and Planning Chair), James Collis, Leif Davidsen, Andy Goundry, Andy Hampshire, Joan Holroyd, Martyn Lass and Richard Muir.     Elstead Village Road safety (EVRS) a sub committee of the Parish Council has been delivering a survey and asking for your views.   • Parish Council Annual Assembly

    The Annual Assembly will be held after a short Annual Parish Meeting on Monday 22nd May at 8pm.  There will be a variety of guest speakers, a summary of 2022-2023 accounts and an introduction to any new councillors joining the Elstead Parish Council.   Afterwards residents are invited to stay for light refreshments and to ask any questions on issues that might be affecting the parish.
  • Tree Survey – Parish Council land

    Following the tree survey all of the necessary works on trees on Parish Council land have been completed.  The Parish Council would like to reassure residents that it has still has every intention of keeping this a natural area and will only be doing those works which are deemed essential for pedestrian and highways safety.  Trees are checked for wildlife and nests before any work is started.
  • Coronation Celebrations 6th-8th May

    The Coronation weekend of 6-8th May will be a celebratory weekend.  There are a number of events happening across the village from cricket at the pavilion to live music.  Following the Jubilee events of 2022 some of the monies left over were distributed between three village charities.  The remaining monies were held over for a village fete.   In view of the Coronation is was agreed that two smaller events would be organised for 2023 to mark this auspicious occasion and hopefully a Village Fete Committee can be formed in September to start work on a Village Fete for 2024.     May 2023 will be the year for local elections and on 4th May 2023 residents will be able to elect councillors for Elstead Parish Council.  There are nine seats on Elstead Parish Council - some councillors will look for re-election however it is likely that we will need some new councillors to join Elstead Parish Council.   If anyone is interested in standing for election please contact the Parish Clerk or the Parish Chairman for more information and to understand what is involved.  Everyone is very welcome to attend our monthly public meetings so why not come along and see what happens...
